VANCOUVER SLEEP CLINIC
bio
Vancouver Sleep Clinic as a name in itself conjures up imagery of long cold winters, of isolation and remoteness and the sometimes self-imposed reclusiveness in all of us as the days get shorter and we move into the bitter months ahead.
After months of assembling lyrics and instrumentation from various maths books, notes, whiteboards and bedroom walls, humbly working with scattered cheap microphones, an old laptop and an outdated keyboard - Vancouver Sleep Clinic’s debut EP was born.
Soaring falsetto vocals built upon progressive synthetic instrumentation come together to create an ambient vessel for emotional connection.
Bearing messages of sorrow, humility and hope above all else - songs are written from the heart alone.
Together, let’s create something beautiful.

interview
How did you form?
The project started when I (Tim) was in high school, I wrote and recorded music in my bedroom as an escape from all of the homework I was meant to be doing.
Why did you decide to play the genre or genres you do?
I wanted the music to be be able to speak through emotion, connect with people and put them in a beautiful state of mind.
Why did you pick your band name?
I chose the name Vancouver Sleep Clinic because we felt it really captured the sleepy, therapeutic and Winter-like essence that the music creates.
What do you mean with the title of your song "Collapse”?
This song is about feeling like you can’t reach another person’s standards no matter how hard you try. Essentially collapsing in helplessness after many failed attempts.
I really love the atmosphere you generate in the song "Stakes". What could you tell me about it?
Thanks ! The key theme in Stakes is the lyric ‘wash away’. It’s about taking a dark period of life and mentally deciding to forget the past and start again. I wanted the music to match the lyrics in that it would be very washy and ambient, so it feels like you are swimming in the sounds.

The song that i love most is "Flaws", could you tell me something about it?
Flaws is about being burdened about something and feeling the need for isolation, reflection and internal growth.
What do you think if i tell you that you look like an hybrid between Chet Faker and Bon Iver? What do you think?
We’ve heard something like this before! I wouldn’t be complaining at all, they’re too incredible artists. However, we have new music coming very soon and I think it will really change the way people see the project (hopefully in a good way!).
What are your plans for the future?
We spent the whole last year recording an album, so very soon we’ll have news on the new music. Then, a lot of shows! I want to play everywhere and meet everyone.
What could you tell me about the Australian underground music scene?
Australian music is awesome, there’s a lot of great stuff getting out to the world at the moment. We have an awesome support network of radio stations and blogs here too that really help music get out there!
